His Dark Materials: Northern Lights

This year we are doing something very special. ‘His Dark Materials’ is a wonderful epic play involving over 80 creative performers, choreographers, designers, musicians and artists from Island School. Auditions showcased the immense talent we have here at Island School and we look forward to bringing to life this adventure on stage with you.

‘‘His Dark Materials’ takes us on a thrilling journey through worlds familiar and unknown. For Lyra and Will, its two central characters, it's a coming of age and a transforming spiritual experience. Their great quest demands a savage struggle against the most dangerous of enemies. They encounter fantastical creatures in parallel worlds; rebellious angels, soul-eating spectres, child-catching Gobblers and the armoured bears and witch-clans of the Arctic. Finally, before reaching, perhaps, the republic of heaven, they must visit the land of the dead.’ (National Theatre)

AUDITIONS

Auditions for the school production began at the end of the school year 2016-17 at Island. The first round brought together talent from all year groups. It was definitely a huge challenge to decide on who would get which parts! At the start of this school year, we invited new students and all year 7s along to a round of auditions until our cast of almost 60 was complete!
